Okay, every time I click something I get a pop-up. Sorry pro-boards but I agree to turn off my adblocker but pop-ups are a big no-no. I've added this comment to the New Forum Look thread at the Off Topic board where we can properly discuss it.

Flea market/yard sale day (yes we found a few yard sales but not many, and nothing at them!). So I have a small stash to share. Got a couple LPs, what I think are first printings, Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti and the Beatles white album. The first isn't in perfect shape but it's in impressive shape and I'm happy to have it. He threw in the Beatles one because it was in awful condition: vinyl scratched up, the binding at the top of the jacket completely lose, and someone...someone!...colored in the word "Beatles" on the front with black marker. But it is stamped number 0714229 on the cover, so that means something. I don't know. I'm just very sad to see something like this.
But anyway, CDs... Two bucks for Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane, supposedly the only recording from their sessions together. Very happy find! And at a buck apiece: Boxing Gandhis - Boxing Gandhis Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Question the Answers Modern English - Pillow Lips Love and Rockets - Love and Rockets Sting - Sacred Love Wynton Marsalis - Tune In Tomorrow (soundtrack)
Yesterday I also paid two bucks to Amazon for the mp3 album of fun.'s "Some Nights." I don't care. I really dig them. Great Queen-like harmonies, great early-80s intelligent punk grumpiness (you have to listen past the singles to catch this). And you have to hear it unedited.
Currently sampling some of the stuff y'all are recommending.

Speaking of that, Amazon only has Sophie Ellis-Bextor as an import. Going to see if there's a way to actually listen to her. I really like the two that Ed just recommended a lot and wish-listed both of them so I don't forget. And...a good place to start sophieellisbextor.net/

I downloaded but imagine maybe 'richer' as actual disc. Bit of a departure for her in places & took me a few listens to enjoy everything. But I am def. liking it now. Latest thing I got just yesterday is lovely album released Dec./13 of 'boleros' by Spanish/Latin singer Carmen Cuesta (lives in USA though I think), 'Toda Una Vida.' She has fine bossa nova one too a few years ago. . . www.cdbaby.com/cd/carmencuesta2 .

I haven't bought anything in the last week, however thought I'd mention that new Boy George and George Michael albums are coming out in the next couple months. I'm happy.

Just received the new albums of Nina Persson (singer of cardigans, first solo album) and Suzanne Vega. However with the Olympics I'm not sure when I get to play them... not much time for music these days.

Franz Schubert's first two symphonies, composed when he was only sixteen years old, showed that he had absorbed quite a lot from listening to the way the symphonies of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven were structured, and he combined those lessons with his own melodic gift. This recording, originally made in May 1971, isn't exactly of the "fire sale" speed variety of period instrument performances (the Minuet of #1 is performed a bit too slow, in my opinion); but it does have the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in performance, and Karl Bohm on the podium. The celebrated Magic Harp/Rosamunde Overture, also recorded in '71, is the icing on this cake.

I just got the new Suzanne Vega (haven't heard yet) on download and the Nina Persson album recently too. I'm really liking the Persson one. (More on SV later). Quite a few I've got recently, but not much time for listening. Most impressive to me that I have had time to hear (no order): Eileen Rose (Nashville singer/songwriter org. from Boston): Be Many Gone. Rough-hued a bit like cross between Lucinda Williams/Maria McKee but different lyrically from both: www.amazon.com/Be-Many-Gone-Eileen-Rose/dp/B00HFVCDFM/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1392825363&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=eileen+rose+be+many+gone . I like many of her albums recently. Eleni Mandell Let's Fly a Kite: I love it, balladic and lovely but perhaps not for those who like her edgier 'power pop punkier' side: www.amazon.com/Lets-Fly-Kite-Eleni-Mandell/dp/B00GMM11WG/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1392825501&sr=1-1&keywords=eleni+mandellThe Haden Triplets. I mentioned this before & like it: 'ol' timey' nice harmonies & fine help from Ry Cooder & others, like an updated Carter Family record kind of: www.amazon.com/Haden-Triplets/dp/B00DT55PB2/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1392825836&sr=1-1&keywords=haden+triplets3 jazz ones: Amy Cervini, Jazz Country. NY jazz singer w. nice amalgam of those styles. Her other more fully jazz albums nice too. Just heard once so far, but very impressed on 1st impression also creative play list ranging from Louis Armstrong's Frim Fram Sauce to After the Goldrush & a couple originals: www.amazon.com/Jazz-Country-Amy-Cervini/dp/B00HGTNJVK/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1392826210&sr=1-1&keywords=amy+cervini+jazz+countryDiana Panton, 'Red': Canadian jazz singer w. lovely 'girlish' voice, this time w. more orchestrated sound. I'm a fan : www.dianapanton.com/releases-new.htmlCanadian jazz pianist Kris Davis's new one-- 'reflections' on birth of her 1st child recently, 'Waiting for You to Grow'-- inventive and surprising as always: www.cleanfeed-records.com/disco2US.asp?intID=445Newest recent classical: Isabelle Faust/Alexander Melnikov/Jean-Guihen Queyras playing Beethoven's 'Archduke' Trio & the Opus 70, no. 2. AM plays fortepiano, so interesting sound mix. Jury still out a bit as only heard once, but intimate approach: www.amazon.com/Beethoven-Piano-Trios-Op-70-Archduke/dp/B00GIXPWN8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392826657&sr=8-1&keywords=isabelle+faust+beethoven+archduke+trio& a few others I'm still trying to get to to hear.

I'll post this week's LP treasures later, but for now, a new CD I bought which is so fantastic. I recommend it highly to pretty much everyone here. It's all about the vocals. Neneh Cherry - "The Blank Project" The third one featuring Robyn.

Arjan and Ed are talking about Nina Persson's album...I checked out a couple songs on youtube...is this a covers album? She does a nice version of Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms."

British composer Steven Price's recent Oscar-winning music score for director Alfonso Cuaron's film GRAVITY. A combination of modern orchestral and electronic sounds, not unlike David Shire's score for 2010 (IMHO).

That Nina Persson album is very good I think. Grown on me even some in fact. In some ways I like it more even than Cardigans. Totally different from that , but I'm really impressed on early listening by that Britfolk album by Furrow Collective I mentioned, 'At Our Next Meeting': trad. stuff with a lot of style and balls, if ok mostly acoustic arrangements that vaguely recall somewhat the trad. side of Pentangle. King Henry: More upbeat one: Hind Horn: Daemon Lover (House Carpenter):

Because the clarinet was the first instrument I learned how to play as a kid, and because I love Mozart, and because of Erik's high recommendations (high as in strong, not high as in stoned), I ordered a copy of the CD he mentioned in "currently listening" which combined those elements. Looks like it's out of print, or at least it is with that album cover. So for about 8 bucks including shipping it will be on its way to me.

She has recorded that quintet too (early '90's): www.amazon.com/Mozart-Clarinet-Quintet-Introduction-Variations/dp/B0000034UY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1394995466&sr=8-5&keywords=sabine+meyer+mozart+clarinet+quintet & I believe more recently -- haven't heard that one. Also nice ones w. members of St. Martin in the Fields Orch., one w. Emerson Quartet and David Shiffrin, plus many others of note of course. Sabine is really excellent.
