That's funny... at this very moment I'm watching "The Great Dictator".
I must admit I haven't seen most of them but in this movie he's so funny as Herr Hynkel... speaching in fake German and the typical Chaplin movements in his part as the barber... very well done.

The first six on the list are all masterpieces in my opinion, the other three aren't that shabby either. But no doubt, he was at his most effective when he played that tramp character. I voted for "City Lights." Besides extremely funny it's also on the sentimental side, but I don't mind. In fact that closing scene must be one of the most moving ever and a highlight in movie history. Puts a lump in my throat every time I see it.

Very tough to chose. A case could be made for each-- & I almost voted for "Modern Times." But "City Lights" blend of comedy and sentimentality (however dated) really shows to me the balance he had & combination of sentiment & physical comedy. Or something. Ed

Great Dictator here.. one of the early cinema commentaries on political events... I wonder what Charlie would have done with today's events?

I voted for Modern Times which I think is his best film, but my personal favorite is The Gold Rush.

I voted for City Lights. By the way, I use to play the movie theme song "Eternally" on my harmonica ;D

It's been years that I've seen any of his movies, afraid I don't remember much, other than thinking the movie I saw was very funny, I couldn't even tell you the name of the movie, I must have been about 7 years old.

Again, I couldn't vote for some reason. I'd vote for "City Lights" though many other great ones. Just the epitome IMO of his blend of pathos & comedy. I guess dated, but still magical in its way. Ed
