I post this thread here, and not at Goddesses because I feel that those who are not a member of both forums can't judge what they don't know. Anyway............
A few days ago when I started this new forum I (being a bit naive perhaps) expected that everyone would be delighted. I consider it a big improvement to the yahoo-group. Some people who are members of both forums, judging from their positive comments, agree with me. There are however, much to my surprise I must admit, also several folks who prefer the old format.
What's more, several regulars from Goddesses refuse to actually join the new forum. This thread is not intended to be about them, I don't want that. Nobody is obligated to join this forum, and if they don't wanna do that I respect their decision, although I naturally hope that they will change their minds. We will by the way NOT close down Goddesses as long as there is ONE regular who hasn't joined this new forum.
It won't change my descision to keep going with "Women In Music", no matter what the criticism may be, because ultimately I also have to please myself, and I love this format. I would nevertheless like to know how you guys, the people who are members of both forums (I don't know if we already have any others) feel about the new forum. Is it in your opinion better, worse or just as good as the yahoo-group. WHAT is better about this one, what is better about the other one, etc...

I like this format since you can see things at a glance - the topics, who posted last and when , and even how many times something was viewed.
The big advantage of the yahoo groups I think, is the ability to have posts emailed to you (I don't like a lot of emails to wade through, but a personal preference.)
Kind of an apples v. oranges situation to me; if absolutely pushed to make a decision, I would go with the forum, but I certainly understand those who like the groups.

For me it's easy, I like this format a lot better. Of course I'm used to this format anyway by previous forums I have been at (or still am). This forum could be a lot better if all Goddess users would just come here and fill it with posts and topics. But maybe that has to grow, of course I only openend 3 or 4 topics myself I understand some like to get all posts in their mailbox so they can reply to it without caring which group it goes to, goddess, masters or movies. But this forum would be a great way to integrate all of them... the three groups have the same active users anyway.

It probably seems less because the posts are divided between 10 different categories now. Gaston

As I think I said previously, I definitely like this format, but I also don't want to give up on the Yahoo! set-up either. Since I am a moderator here and on the Goddesses and Masters Yahoo! sites, I'd like to be able to train back and forth between them.

I like this format for a number of reasons
1. You can see clearly who replyed to what post.....sometimes on yahoo l get lost trying to sift through all the replys
2 I like how you can put a link on your signature (for blogs websites what ever)
3 The avatars are fun
4 You can send a private message to other members of the forum
5 I just feel this set up give you more freedom to do more in one place.. such as polls, photos and so on.
6 Doen't fill up my email box
Its always nice to try something new.

I prefer this format but also kinda like keeping the Yahoo one just because of ability to switch & 'cameraderie' there. But this forum is definitely more efficient and easier to deal with once you get used to it. Good idea! Ed

i like it better for some things (quickie top 5 lists, etc.) but it's still a MAJOR pain in the ass to scroll down to the end of each section to read the newest post.
it takes a lot of time and i just don't have it
and i like the icons and stuff too but no way is it better than the yahoo group. nope nope nope

I go where walt, ed, jeff D and kathy go.
(you too gaston ol' buddy)
let the naysayers stay over at goddesses.
maybe jenn will come back here, jackie too. I miss them
thats what we need gaston , more dames.

I see pluses in both places.........and I for one have been one to complain about all the posts to wade through if I haven't been able to hit my mail for a few days..........you are right......this is much more orderly and efficient......but it loses something....the feeling of ..I don't know......for want of a better word........closeness.....it is kind of antiseptic approach....and I certainly can understand terry and ben's unhappiness......and I will choose to keep both places in my favorites....as I told ben......I will be there till they lock the doors..... Jeff.
and yes.........not real easy to come and go and pick up where you left off

I think it's a lot easier here to come after a night (european timezone) or a few days and see what's been going on the past days, react in topics that have been made some time ago which of course was almost impossible at the yahoo group. The yahoo group is more like emailing to multiple people, including people that have no interest in part of the mails or when replying to something only one of these people said.
Honestly I think the Yahoo format is out of time and only worked so long in 'our' groups (for some people anyway) because there's so few active users in it. How would people like Terry, Brenda and Ben feel if there were 50 active users? Or 500? There's 900 registered to it...

I think their main "fear" is that this forum will lack the cameraderie of the yahoo-group. I just don't see it that way. The character of a forum is made by it's members, not the format of the forum. Threads here can be just as conversational as at the yahoo-group. The only difference is that here posts from the same thread are grouped together, which can only be a good thing, while at the yahoo-forum you may get a post where Walt asks what everybody's favorite Blondie album is, and next you have to read that Terry likes to eat a grapefruit while Brenda prefers a banana, Robert thinks that Nicole Kidman is a cutie while Ed doesn't think she's that hot, etc... After reading unrelated posts for about half an hour you might stumble upon one (if you're lucky) where someone actually answers Walt's question about the Blondie album. I can't for the life of me understand why that should be better than what we've got here. Gaston

This group's enjoyable from my perspective. Only problem I see is that the URL is undecipherable, so a bookmark is defitely required. Already did that.
Thanks, Andrew

;)GEEZ GASTON! ALL YOU SAID HERE, IS THE EXACT REASON I LOVED GODDESSES, ETC. IN MY MAILBOX! HA!....ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER ON ALL DIFFERING NONRELATED SUBJECTS, JUST LIKE REAL LIFE....AND TERRY, HE HAS LOTS OF OTHER GROUPS COMING TO HIS MAILBOX I THINK HE SAID, SO HE'LL HAVE TO BE THERE AND HERE AND I THINK THAT'S WHY HE WANTED ALL HIS STUFF IN ONE PLACE AND NOT HAVE TO GO BACK AND FORTH....I AM GOING TO TRY (AS I HAVE TIME WHICH IS IN SHORT SUPPY RIGHT NOW FOR ME) TO CONQUER THIS NEW WAY HERE AND IF I CAN DO IT AND ENJOY IT TO THE FULLEST AND TELL HIM I DO, THEN MAYBE I CAN TALK HIM IN TO GIVING IT A TRY.....QUESTION: IF I AM READING THE 20 LATEST QUOTES OR WHATEVER, HOW CAN I RESPOND THERE TO JUST THE ONE QUOTE I WANT TO? OR DO I HAVE TO GO TO THE SITE OF IT TO DO SO, THAT WOULD BE A DRAG....AND HOW MANY CAN WE EXPAND THAT FEATURE TO? LIKE MAYBE A HUNDRED? (IF WE GET BUSY), SO AS SOMEONE LIKE ME OR TERRY WHO LOVED THE OLD WAY COULD STILL GET THAT FEEL OF SEEING EVERYTHING POSTED ABOUT ALL DIFFERNENT SUBJECTS MIXED UP ONE AFTER THE OTHER? IF WE COULD ENSURE THAT, I THINK MAYBE THAT WOULD GO A LONG WAY TO MAKING ME AND TERRY AND MAYBE BEN AND WALT LIKE THIS FORMAT A WHOLE LOT MORE....I'M SUCH A KLUTZ, IT TAKES ME FOREVER TO FIGURE THINGS OUT.......! Honestly I think the Yahoo format is out of time and only worked so long in 'our' groups (for some people anyway) because there's so few active users in it. QUESTION: IF I AM READING THE 20 LATEST QUOTES OR WHATEVER, HOW CAN I RESPOND THERE TO JUST THE ONE QUOTE I WANT TO? You can by using the "quote" option that all messages have. That will open a message screen where you can keep, edit or delete the quote of the post you reply too and add your own message, as long or short as you wish.

One of the things I like about this format is that you can read all of the posts of a particular thread all in a row, one after the other. Gaston

I take a while to assimilate things into my routine, I consider myself progressive, but at the same time love my routines, I like things about this format a lot better than yahoo, but yahoo is home, so I see this as having the best of both worlds.

You took the words out of my mouth, Dave. The forum format is far more functional and I like it better than the yahoo group format. Nevertheless, I'm still fond of the Goddesses group. I guess I'll keep posting on both for pretty long time. Furthermore, I'd like to ask Gaston never to erase the Goddesses group, even if it becomes totally idle. There's a part of our lives in the Goddesses archive.

It's really a pity Ben and Jeff won't come and use the advantages here, being game leaders and all. Now Jeff even starts a new game in Movies. Why not here... pity.

Nothing, for chats and all no problem. But for the games this is so much easier for who ever has to count the votes...
