Happy Thanksgiving to all.... and not to bring everyone down, but a somber anniversary today.. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on this day in 1963. There are some of us who remember respecting and not fearing our government.
RIP

We do indeed have a lot to be thankful for, but Robert is right about JFK. We did indeed used to trust our government; heck, we used to think that we were the government, as opposed to merely the governed. Much of that was lost on November 22, 1963. I hope we can someday get it back, but it will be a long and drawn-out process (IMHO).

DITTO ;D Gaston have you thought about inviting Grant here? I think he might like it if he is willing to give it a try! Marty He's welcome of course. I will try to find his email address. About half a dozen people from the Dusty forums have joined already. The hard part is getting them posting. The strange thing about people when they look into what's going on here (or any other similar forum) is that they think, "Well, they are discussing this or that artist over here. I can't participate because I don't like or know him or her." People should realize that they can start threads themselves if they want. And they are free to invite their friends or people with similar interests to theirs also. Gaston

I have to admit there are quite a few people I do not know of on this site and I'm still catching up on the reading. It's nice to have such an international site! As you can see, I am posting on the sites I know a bit about!

As you can see, I am posting on the sites I know a bit about! Marty Well, we have some people here who love classical music, opera and jazz. These genres are minority interests but to those of us who love the genre(s) these artists are as famous as Elvis or the Beatles. On the other hand, there are many people here familiar with contemporary pop/rock who probably whenever they talk about someone that I don't know. Gaston

Anybody else interested in the musical theatre here besides me? Marty I'm interested, but not very knowledgable about modern musicals. I like the old stuff from Rodgers and Hammerstein, the Gershwins and such. Gaston

**Yes, yes, yes!!! I love it ;D-- though I admit mostly the 'golden age' stuff ('30s-c'70). I like Sondheim of contemporary mus. theatre & some others like Adam Guettel recently, but not much the Webber or rock musical stuff tho even there a few things. Ed

I love Rodgers and Hammerstein, Sondheim, Bernstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Pantom of the Opera is awesome and a MUST see show. I've seen it twice so far, once locally in Florida and recently on Broadway, hoping the next time will be at London's West End. The music, costumes and sets are purely awesome, it's an extremely visual play and I recommend sitting as close to the stage as possible.
I also recently saw the musical "Hairspray" on Broadway. It's great....everyone walks out in a great mood remembering the music from the late 50's and early 60s! Lots of fun!
I've seen two shows that I don't like in all the years I've been going to the theatre and they are Cabaret and Les Miserable. Although the music from Les Mis is wonderful but the story of the French Revolution just makes it too sad and depressing in my opinion.

Although the music from Les Mis is wonderful but the story of the French Revolution just makes it too sad and depressing in my opinion.<< **I like Cabaret a lot-- but it has it be done very well. I wasn't so enamored of the scaled back recent revival, though well reviewed. I don't like Les Miz much at all-- a few numbers aside. Except the innkeeper & his wife evil guys. Characters too wooden for me & music overblown & yeah the subject (I think Revolution of 1830) doesn't lend to musical. But again, many love it of course . Offbeat musical (only a few characters) I liked recently is Adam Guettel's "Light in the Piazza." Lyrical in it's way-- almost a play w. music/a bit operatic but impressed me. Ed

Hi Ed,
I am sorry that you do not like Phantom of the Opera as it's my favorite musical. I agree with your comment about Les Mis, the subject matter of the French Revolution just does not lend itself to a musical, but as you say it's a favorite of many.
Afraid I am not familiar with "Light in the Piazza."
