isn't it just freaking amazing how the Iraqi court managed to pass a death sentance for Saddam Hussein to be announced just 3 days before the US midterm elections.
Its all about timing isn't it?

Yes, and fat lot of good it does us.
When Saddam was captured, the violence only escalated. Now that he has been condemned to swing, anyone else care to take bets on what's probably going to happen now?

The media is eating this up. Iraqis are celebrating, dancing in the streets, etc. etc. Except for Saddam's supporters, of course, and they must all be evil America-haters, after all. (Sarcasm...that was sarcasm) I still think the Democrats are going to take at least the House. For the record, I'm against the death penalty. And the fact that the guys in U.S. office used to love Saddam Hussein just makes this more of a crazy world. Not justice, just insanity. Andrew

Andrew I think (and pray) you are right about the House going to the Democrats. I see the Senate staying Republican, 51 - 48 plus Leiberman (I- CT) who in order to get a fat Committee Chairmanship will agree to vote with the Republicans on most issues. And to thank his friends in the Democratic party leadership who turned their backs on him. I see where Tony Blair is coming out opposed to Saddam's execution. Kind of funny him stepping back from Bush on this one. Sort of like when one's pet poodle pees on the carpet. Ron

Well, it looks like the Dems have control of the House of Representatives, and, depending on what happens in Virginia and Montana, they may get the Senate as well. It's high time that someone forces the issue of Iraq straight down the throat of the Bush junta.
And better news: Rumsfeld stepped down before he could f**k this country up any further as SecDef.

In spite of the possibility the Republican incumbent might win in my own district (they're still counting ballots), I'm very happy with what happened Tuesday.

While still savoring the Democrat victory nationwide, I unfortunately must dampen the celebration somewhat by reminding folks that beside the fact that the power of the veto still resides with the monkey in the Oval Office, this could still unravel two years from now, if there isn't a significant change in the way business is conducted in Congress and some progress is made on issues the voters really care about.
Also it should be remembered that if the lady Senator from New York decides to enter the presidential race in 2008, the Republican hardliners and their army of right wingers and bible thumpers in the South and West will be energized to defeat her and could swing everything back their way.
I like Senator Clinton and certainly admire her balls, but she can't win in the South or the section of the country between the Mississippi River and the West coast. In fact the Republicans are so certain of this that I predict that should she enter the primaries, there will be a surge in Republicans registeing for Democratic primaries and caucuses to ensure she wins them and secures the convention nomination. Of course, they will in turn vote against her in the general election.
You think Bush vs Kerry was ugly. you ain't seen nothing yet if its the Republicans versus Hilary.

All the more reason to put some fire under the Democrats who were already there, and those that have just been elected in, to put the issues before the Bush junta, and to sort out who might be the best to stand up to the GOP onslaught.
But for right now, the Democrats need to not look weak on national security and Iraq. And the way to do that is to accentuate the fact that this administration's dreams of empire in the Middle East are, in fact, jeopardizing both our security and, more importantly, our freedom.

No one is weaker on national security then are the Republicans. Just look at what they have accomplished since they took power...total incompetents but brilliant propagandists...
