I picked Lincoln, for holding things together in spite of a terrible war and low popularity for the bulk of his presidency. He was bold and broke the rules in just the right ways. Had he lived for his second term, the horrifying effects of the "reconstruction" may not have happened. As it was, he was ahead of his time, an oasis sandwiched in-between severe mediocrity.

I don't know their record well enough to participate really. But I don't want to be a bad sport, so I voted for Lincoln too. He's the most legendary of the lot I suppose. Besides - he looks a bit like Mick Fleetwood.

The votes for Honest Abe are mightily appropriate, for sure.
I went with JFK, because, like Lincoln, Kennedy had to contend with a war, albeit a different kind of war--the Cold War. And in October 1962, he bent over backwards to keep the Cold War from exploding into a Hot War (not to mention a war that would destroy the human race).

I also went with Lincoln (a completely different kind of Republican than today's mutation)..
Sadly, if JFK had survived, he may have gotten my vote.. I think he had the vision and courage to be up there with any past President
PS- I would have put in Eisenhower instead of Reagan, myself..

And you'd have an infinite number of good reasons for doing so, not the least of which was Ike's parting warning to the nation that they guard against the undue influence of the military/industrial complex.
