In Nordic Combined (Ski Jump + 10K Cross-Country Race),. I have no idea who came up with the idea to combine these disciplines. It seems so, random. But congrats nonetheless

Yeah, well, honestly if you wanted to compare you should mention Bob de Jong. Though maybe he's a bit too old now. But he's one who never was appreciated much, even his gold medal 4 years ago was not enough to get a new contract from his sponsor. He trains in Berlin with the 'group Friesinger' currently. Veldkamp always was appreciated but he also wanted to skate the allround championships and for that the competition in Holland was too much so he went to Belgium.

Yesterday the 500m, but even more than the big surprise winner the talk will be about the failing ice machines. What a mess. Anyway, as expected a Korean won, however no one would have expected this Korean, Mo. Dutch guy Smeekens was 6th which was quite good really looking at who he left behind him. I didn't watch it live, I taped it and watched this morning before going to work.
Tonight it's the 500m Ladies. Wolf and Wang will decide who get Gold and Silver, if they can keep their nerves in control. The bronze will most likely fo to Korean Sang Hwa Lee or Dutch Annette Gerritsen. Though you never know (Boer? Angermüller?).

I went to bed after the first series of races. I didn't see the rest of it.
When is the women's race? This evening or at the same time as the men's race yesterday?

Earlier, starts at 10pm (first heat) and if all goes well the 2nd heat ends around 0.30-1.00. I'll watch this live

I feel sorry for Gerritsen. Great opening, and than that fall.

Yes, it's sort of a habit. She's got a history of falling and false starts. Specially pity because the times were not that great of everyone so she could have been top 5 at least by now. It hurts to see her in tears. She also skates 1000 and 1500 but unlike Boer and van Riessen she had the highest hopes for the 500.
But it will be exciting to see what Boer can do in the next heat. She can go to 3 but also down to 8 if it's bad. And will Lee win of does Wolf make a big return? Or does Wang do something impossible? Will they all finish the race without falling?

Seems to me that the first nine or ten are all so close that they all still have a shot at a medal.

Gerritsen will skate the 2nd heat to (re)gain trust.
Yes, very close, just like yesterday, and then we saw some major changes in the 2nd heat, like Smeekens moving up from 10 to 6 and Poutala dropping from 1 to 5...

Fourth place is the most painfull position to end up at, but good effort from Boer. Let's hope for a great 1.000m from Gerritsen.

Yes, but the competition there is huge. Same as the men 1000 tomorrow Painful maybe, however 4th place is good of course and less painful then falling. Top 3 was predictable except for the order, though Lee is of course world champion sprint. She too will be among the favourites for the 1000. Plus Nesbitt of course. And some more...

Interview with Boer on tv, she was happy with the 4th place, realistic about the difference to the top 3. And of course she's also a favourite for the 1000. So is van Riessen too, by the way.

Saw a few minutes of something semi-interesting yesterday in the Olympic coverage..women's Ice Hockey. trying to picture a female hockey player missing her front teeth that she lost in a fight lol maybe not, will stick to picturing Ms Vonn and Ms Teter I guess.

One race, starts around 1 am European time. I'll watch, took a day off tomorrow from work It will be exciting. So many favourites. Davis is top favourite, but there's also Morrison, all 4 Dutch men, the Koreans, maybe Wotherspoon...

Good Just in time. By the way, they have an ice brusher from Calgary now. They removed the name from the machine because it's different than the official Vancouver one
