As many of you have already heard, Japan was nailed by an 8.9 temblor that generated a tsunami of 23 feet in height (seven meters). It is a catastrophe of staggering proportions, exceeded only by the Christmas 2004 quake in Indonesia whose subsequent tsunami wave killed a quarter of a million. The death toll may not be anywhere near as high, but the damage is something else entirely: news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110311/ap_on_re_as/as_japan_earthquakeAt this moment, much of the West Coast of the U.S., including the coastline of Southern California, is under a tsunami advisory because the wave is anticipated to reach here in two hours, though it won't be anything like what we saw in Japan itself. Right now, however, I'm just totally crestfallen for the people over there in Japan.
