All the best for 2014. I'm glad that 2013 is over. It's been an awful year. I've just heard that Rory McIllRoy popped the question and that Caroline Wozniacki said "yes." My favorite tennis girl is getting married.

Well, with all the "twerking" and the endless stories of the Kardashians polluting the airwaves, yes, it hasn't been the best of years. This, and the fact that Parkinson's silenced Linda's voice, one of the greatest in pop music over the last half century. But I think there were good points too, including Daft Punk's big retro-sounding hit (thanks to Nile Rodgers) "Get Lucky", and contributions from great female Americana icons like Emmylou Harris, and newer womenfolk like Tift Merritt and Caitlin Rose.
Hopefully 2014 will be better. My home city kicks it off with the 125th annual Tournament of Roses Parade tomorrow morning.

Well, my comment about 2013 had more to do with my own year than with the entertainment or music industry, Erik. But as far as music is concerned, I'd say that this was an average year, or one that we in recent years have come to accept as an average one. But there have been some pleasant surprises as always. Still, I'm currently trying to put together my own list of top 40 albums for 2013 and finding 40 that I really like is a struggle. But I admit that a lot of that may have to do with the fact that I don't listen enough to current music and it's perfectly possible that I missed out on some gems that would go straight to the top of my list if only I had listened to them. I doubt it, but you never know.

I don't think that there's much hope of other people joining us, Arjan. If they were interested the old regulars from goddesses would have done so by now, and the chance of 'strangers' joining us is even smaller because there are thousands of music forums out there including many that are far more active than this one. And I don't know what the situation is now at yahoo, but when I started goddesses there was an option of sending invitations to people in the hope that they would join. I think I must have invited anywhere between 30.000 and 50.000 people to join in those days. I know from experience that only one of about every 25 people you invite will end up joining (if the're strangers) and only one in ten of those that do join will actually post anything. But it was nevertheless possible to build a membership at the yahoo groups if you were willing to put in the time. But proboards has no 'recruit new members' option, so I wouldn't know how to go about that even if I was willing to waste that much time on it again.

A bit belated happy new year to all. Yes, I hope this Forum remains active as it has been a bit more recently. I don't expect more folks joining in, but that would be nice if it happened. As for Caroline and Rory, I wish them well and hope they beat the odds and 'pressures,' stay together and are happy (I feel the media knives are already out for them though. . . ). I hope Caroline bounces back and wins a major too. She's a cutie .

I wish I could convince Walt and Andrew to join or at least be more active over here...
they aren't really doing anything over at Goddesses that they can't do over here..(voting on Ben's games).
I don't think Kathy will be joining us...she had pretty much dropped off over at Goddesses as well...Dave Hauser and his Song or Album Madness would be a good addition over here, but he seems to have disappeared as well when he was having trouble posting his stuff with the new Yahoo format.
I actually preferred his music games with the either or format.

I think it's a matter of rolling with the punches regarding any potential new membership at this board. You can't make them come here if they don't want to. But I do spend a great deal of time here at ProBoards, and I do intend to keep coming here as long as it's in operation, while also making more time for the Yahoo site. I don't know that it'd be a whole lot of fun if there weren't these two options.

As for Caroline and Rory, I wish them well and hope they beat the odds and 'pressures,' stay together and are happy (I feel the media knives are already out for them though. . . ). I hope Caroline bounces back and wins a major too. She's a cutie . Yep, she's cute and she is a very sweet girl as well. Suits from the WTA, tournament suits and sponsors say that they ask players, "can you do this or that for us." But Caroline is different they say. She comes up to THEM and asks, "ok guys, what can I do for you?" She's VERY easy to work with. Tennis fans say that she's lovely as well. She's always up for a little chat or posing for pictures with them, and so on. Her nickname is not Sunshine for nothing. But I sometimes think that her being so nice can work against her in competitive tennis because there's nothing intimidating about her. All her colleagues love her. Even Sharapova who has a reputation for keeping her distance from other players loves her. Serena says that she's the nicest girl on tour. Caroline was the only player who came to visit her in hospital when she was seriously ill a few years ago. Papa Williams calls her his "white daughter." Radwanska calls her "her best friend." All very sweet of course, but perhaps it would help her tennis a bit if she was more bitchy. Still, I love her the way she is and hope that she won't change.

well I made another appeal to Walt and Andrew....so we will see
they seem like the only ones besides maybe Ben Miller, that are active over there, that are worth bothering with that aren't already here.
