I know, spoken like a true Wozniacki fan. But even so, that's the way I see it. Poor sweet Caroline invested so much in this relationdship. Followed Rory McIlroy around the world for almost three years, no doubt missing countless training sessions as a result. She was the number one ranked player in the world at the time she met him, but IMMEDIATELY started to struggle after she became his girlfriend. In the three years BEFORE she met him she won 18 tournaments including five premier mandatory/premier5 events (the highest regarded tournaments apart from the majors) and eight premiers (the level just below that). And she closed out the year as the number one player in the world for two years in a row. In the (almost) three years AFTER she met him she's won only 3 tournaments, two of them internationals (the lowest level for the WTA). And she nosedived from number one to number fourteen. So there can be no doubt about it that her career has suffered enormously because of this relationship. Sometimes it was frustrating to see for a fan like me that her level has dropped so much. But on the other hand I always thought, "Oh well, she's a young girl in love and her long term happiness is more important than a silly game where two chicks hit a ball to one another." But earlier this year Rory proposed to her, she said "yes", he goes on and on in each interview about how much he loves her, that she's the most important thing in the world to him, etc. He let's her buy her wedding dress, they send out wedding invitations and then two days later he flies to London whereupon he immediately calls her to say that the marriage is off because he's not up to it. Yes, CALLS HER. The jerk didn't even have the nerve to tell her in person. How do you like such a guy?

She's much better off without him IMO. & really vice versa. At least he didn't wait for them to actually get married, which would've been even worse. I hope it rekindles her career. She deserves much better and deserved better from him. But in reality I think such 'co-celebrity' marriages esp. between sports stars aren't likely to work out. I'm sure there're exceptions (but can't think of any for now). Anyway, now's your chance Gaston!!!

Anyway, now's your chance Gaston!!! Thanks Ed. I hadn't yet thought about it like that, but you're right! If only I was thirty years younger. What would she want with an old fart like me. But I would be an improvement over Rory! There's NO WAY that I would call off a wedding with Caroline Wozniacki!

Just wanted to say in case anyone is wondering where I am, and have I left the building or something....No. There is a tennis major going on at the moment. And as you know whenever that's the case the world stops turning for me and it's all about tennis, tennis, tennis and more tennis. Watching tennis, reading about tennis, discussing the matches and the players with fellow tennis fanatics. Tennis, tennis, tennis. But in a week from now it will all be over and I will rejoin the human race. Just wanted to let you guys know.

Yep. I follow tennis all year though. I'm subscribed to the online "tennistv" which covers virtually all tournaments except for the majors and davis cup. So there aren't many weeks when I don't watch at least three or four matches. But during the majors I go in overdrive and it's very hectic because there is so much stuff going on at the same time. Too much to see everything that you would like to see. It's not good for my health either because I get very nervous when one of my faves is playing and I smoke like a chimney. At the same time I miss the adrenaline rush once it's over I don't know what it is with this game. I've been a huge fan ever since I watched my first match in the mid-70's. It's a bit like boxing really. Two guys (or girls) trying to hit the shit out of each other, but with a net seperating them. And the scoring system is pure genius.

I probably find the game just a touch too quixotic, but there's a place in the world for it.
Incidentally, Wimbledon takes place over a period of two weeks or so that encompasses the 4th of July here in America. Anyone else besides me think this is England's way of getting its collective revenge against the Colonies for 1776? (LOL)

Try to watch at least some of each of those. Esp. the women.

I watched as much Roland Garos as I could... I even taped the womens final as it was way too good weather to stay home and watch. So I din't know the result when I started watching saterdayevening What a game it was. Good thing I deciced to tape 4 hours instead of 3 or I would have missed the last games Of course Sharapove was the big favourite actually already from the moment Serena was kicked out But what a game Haleb played too.

Yes, Halep was sort of tennis' best kept secret in a way. But as someone who follows tennis very closely I knew that she was this good, so I wasn't at all surprised by how well she did. In fact, I picked her to make the final before the tournament started. That Bouchard girl who made the semis (lost in a close match to Sharapova) is also going to be big. But I'm glad that Sharapova has won it. I don't like the grunting, but she's such a fierce competitor - she would rather die than lose. She's a bit the female version of Jimmy Connors really. The mens final was a bit disappointing I think. But perhaps I'm just getting a bit bored with that match-up of Nadal vs Djokovic because I see them play each other almost every month.

Good women's final I agree. I'm glad Sharapova won in that match up, just coz I think she deserved another major, & she really 'remade' her game on clay, which is quite a feat actually, esp. for a player who doesn't move naturally that well. I like Halep too (& Bouchard). Actually, some interesting your players on women's side now. Nadal/Djok. is quite a rivalry, but somehow doesn't move me that much (men's tennis in general right now is kind of boring me for some reason)-- didn't get to watch this one.

Also forgot to say that while not my favorite player exactly, I do respect Sharapova for really taking the tennis seriously and competing at a high level, coming back from that shoulder surgery too. She could make a very good living as a model or 'glam' star of some kind & neglect or leave behind the sport that brought her there.

Well, those guys play at a very high level for sure, but perhaps it's all a bit too predictable at the moment. My favorite male player to watch is still Federer. His game is real eye candy.

It's just not possible to try harder than she does. In her early years I wasn't much of a fan, but she gradually won me over because she wants it so badly and she competes so hard.

Men's tennis just takes too long most of the time. If I turn on the tv and see they're in the 3rd set with one set each I already get bored knowing it takes who knows how long before someone will win it. Females is easy, just 3 sets maximum. Of course, it can also take up more than 3 hours but that's rare. And in case of the last final it didn't bore one second.

Not sure who my favourite is. I've got a soft spot for Ivanovic but she seems not being able to get back to her previous level. Or she does but it's not enough anymore. I also like Sharapova though. And as new comers are concerned I'm really curious to see how far Laura Robson can go, unfortunately she first has to come back from an injury.

Laura Robson will be a commentator/analist for the BBC this Wimbledon, or so I hear. Ivanovic has been improving again for a couple of years now, but only very gradually and without actually getting back to her very best. Her main problem is that serve of hers that often breaks down when things get tight. That and the fact that while she has a terrific forehand, she's not a good defender. But when she's on she's a handful for anyone, and she has already beaten players like Serena and Sharapova this year.
