I am considering doing a Hall of Fame similar to what Gaston is doing over in the Music Section only for film and would kind of like to get a feel for the interest level (with only six or 7 active participants, it wouldn't make much sense to me if there is limited interest....Gaston seems open to it and I guess and I would expect Erik might be as well...
I have been initially looking at 4 categories for nomination/induction
films
actors
actresses
directors
not sure how I want to break it down as far as years yet. I would like to separate the silent era from the rest of the 20th Century. I would more or less look at doing it by decades
Silent Era
30s
40s
50s
60s
70s
80s
90s
I am not sure how far beyond the year 2000 I want to go. obviously there are important films but you have to have a cutoff date I think
doing that way for films is easy though I think it gets a little trickier for actor/actresses and directors. how do you determine what era they are best suited for. they might say do their most important work in the 40s but actually got their start in the 30s, and continue well into the 50s or 60s and 70s.
actors and actresses will each have a separate category, but I am not going to sub-divide into leading roles or supporting roles...in other words a Jane Darwell and a Walter Brennan will have the same shot as a Jean Harlow and a Henry Fonda.
(of course I can adjust this too if people would like to see supporting actors acknowledged differently than leading roles. I would be the first to agree that there are many fine character actors and actresses that are worthy of Hall of Fame recognition).
also unlike Gaston's music Hall of Fame I am not going to have a "Suits" category. So no studio heads, producers, screenwriters, composers or any technical roles beyond that of Director. (on this one I am not as likely to bend like with the supporting actors and actresses as I don't want this to have as many categories as the Academy Awards Ceremony )
Gaston and I have discussed the possibility of scheduling this on a once a month basis like he does his HOF. He would do the music category/polls for two weeks and I would do mine the other two weeks or so. (I think we can squeeze all 4 categories in in two weeks)
anyway...please let me know if there is any interest and of course feel free to offer any advice with regards to tweaking any of the things I have mentioned above
