women's final... Serena versus the Woz Yes, I'm scared shitless. Since Rory dumped her Caro has been playing better and better. I'm glad that she's back in business. The Serena I saw yesterday will still be too good I fear. But if Woz can get her foot in the door Serena will potentially have a problem. Woz is not a ball basher, doesn't make many errors, varies the pace of her shots and can run like a rabbit. Traditionally those types give a less than 100% Serena more problems than someone who just tries to outhit her. Serena eats those for breakfast. But if Serena is at her absolute peak Woz will merely be a spectator watching aces and return winners fly by her. But even the best players have only four or five matches per year when they are totally in the zone and the tennis ball looks the size of a soccer ball to them. So let's hope that Serena won't have one of those days and that Caroline plays the match of her life. Problem is that Serena never, or only extremely rarely (as good as never) loses to other players ranked inside the top 15. When she loses it's always to a non-entity who takes her by surprise. But she doesn't underestimate the top players like she occassionaly does the lower ranked players and is ready for them.

I also fear it will be a rather boring final, as in Serena being too good for Wozniaki. But it's a good thing she reached the final, she will move up some places in the WTA ranking I suspect, back to a place that more suits her.

Where exactly will depend on if she wins or loses. But in the week when Rory gave her the boot she was #18, so she has started to do very well very quickly.

She's placed #10 in this tournament so I suspect she'll maybe go to place 7 or 8... don't think she did well last year so that's a lot of extra points.
