Actually, the film that Sparks was in was ROLLERCOASTER, a suspense film that is sort of a precursor to SPEED, except the bomber in question in ROLLERCOASTER targets amusement park rides.
The old Buddy Holly/Chuck Berry hit "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man" was an early (1970) C&W smash for what soon-to-be-notorious musical "outlaw"?

Not sure I understand 'muff' but I know a recording of Are You Lonesome Tonight known as (laughing version) which even charted in the late 90s in Holland.
British 70s band Arrows were long forgotten until one of their b-sides was covered and became a world wide hit, saving them from oblivion. What was that b-side?
